MariaDB maintains high compatibility with MySQL, with matching APIs, commands, and wire protocol.
LibMariaDB C client API is available to connect software applications developed in C/C++ to MariaDB and MySQL. It can also be used for Cobol, Fortran, Pascal, and BASIC.
